Saturday Church

After his father's death, Ulysses must become "man of the house", but clad in red high heel pumps, he is pulled in another direction. Picking up a slew of awards on the festival circuit, including Audience Award Runner Up at Tribeca, Saturday Church is a soulful exploration of self.

At Saturday Church, the weekly meetup of gay and trans youth, based on a real life program in NYC's West Village, Ulysses finds acceptance and understanding. Here he is greeted by Joan (played by transgender activist and author Kate Bornstein); a home away from home, the people he meets there quickly become a second family.

From vogueing at the tabernacle, to delicate dances away from school bullies, Ulysses begins to delve deeper into self discovery, with disastrous consequence on his conservative homelife. An original musical score pulses through every scene and musical interludes introduce a dreamy, fantasy landscape as Ulysses sheds his outer layers to reveal his inner truth.
