Al Berto

Al Berto
Al Berto

Directed by Vicente Alves do Ó, Al Berto is a sensual Portuguese film, based on the lives of poet, Alberto Raposo Pidwell Tavares, known as "Al Berto", and his lover, João Maria.

Set in the Portuguese village of Sines, the year is 1975 and Al Berto has just returned to Portugal from Belgium following Portugal's political revolution. Al Berto takes up residence in a mansion previously owned by his family: a home that soon becomes a hub of cultural progressiveness and sexual liberation in Sines, and the talk of the town's narrow-minded folk.

Breathing cultural life into a village that is not yet ready for liberation comes at a cost, not just for Al Berto, but for all who consider the mansion, and Al Berto's bookstore, a safe place.
