Can a music festival unite the LGBTIQ community and the Mormon church?
Dan Reynolds, the lead singer of Grammy-winning rock group Imagine Dragons, grew up in a devout Mormon family and spent two years as a missionary. Now he can no longer ignore his church’s treatment of its LGBTIQ members and the high rate of youth suicide in Utah. Self-aware enough to realise that he’s no expert on LGBTIQ issues, Reynolds joins forces with Tyler Glenn, the openly gay singer of Neon Trees, to stage the inaugural LoveLoud festival.
After listening to the experiences of Mormons, including a young girl who came out at church and the grieving parents of a gay man, Reynolds is more determined than ever - but will the Church of Latter Day Saints come to the table?
Believer is a heartfelt documentary about the intersection of faith and sexuality, and the power of music to create social change.
