Following queer indie darlings BPM and Sauvage, Félix Maritaud continues his prolific ascent with Christophe Charrier’s thriller Boys, where he delivers another visceral performance as Jonas, a man haunted by the past in this tense thriller.
Rewind to 1997 and Jonas is beginning 9th grade and falling in love with Nathan, the new kid in school. The two skip class, smoke and play Game Boy while exploring their newfound feelings for each other. In the present day, Jonas’ life carries a dark sadness from a past he can’t seem to shake. His boyfriend has thrown him out of the house for cheating, and he gets arrested for getting into an altercation at the local gay bar, Boys.
As the film switches between the two timelines, a sweet coming of age tale unfolds into an engrossing mystery that keeps you guessing from start to finish.
"Boys is a riveting exploration of how events shape our lives and can change our course. Boys builds up to a worthwhile final act that is rewarding and cathartic, as well as deeply emotional" - Entertainment Focus
