Written and directed by Juliana Rojas and Marco Dutra this Brazilian film is sure to satisfy any genre film enthusiast.
Set in contemporary São Paulo, Clara accepts a job looking after the wealthy, isolated and heavily pregnant Ana. Despite being complete opposites in personality, race, class, and economic standing, the women soon become lovers. However, as the birth of her first child approaches, Ana begins to act strangely when a full moon rises. When the baby is born, Clara’s life shifts as her loyalty to Ana’s son ensues.
Exploring multiple social themes including wealth, class, and race this film is ultimately about love and loyalty. It is rare to find a film, let alone a dark fabled film that touches on these themes so effectively.
With biting (pun intended!!) humour this multi genre film is a unique cinema going experience. It is not hard to see why this gem has been a hit at several Film Festivals.
"By infusing the classic werewolf story with undercurrents of class division, sexual awakening and economic unrest, it transcends horror movie clichés and astutely depicts the quiet terror of feeling invisible in the modern world." - San Diego CityBeat
