Sauvage is a powerful portrait of a gay hustler on the streets of France. Leo (Félix Maritaud) was made to be loved and only kisses his clients when it’s “natural”. A wild young man with swagger and puppy dog eyes, Leo falls in love with a fellow hustler and the more his affections are rebuffed, the more all-consuming and ravaging they become.

In writer-director Camille Vidal-Naquet’s feature debut that shocked Cannes, Félix Maritaud delivers an intense performance with visceral abandon. The camera acts as a voyeur as Leo navigates his hedonistic lifestyle, and moments of humour and tenderness are interspersed with the harsher realities of his chosen life. Alone in his wild life, all Leo wants is safety, love and comfort - or does he?
