The story behind the Lesbian Herstory Archives is one of hope, community and passion.

In the 1970s, Deborah Edel and Joan Nestle co-founded, in their own apartment, a library of artifacts that speak to the lesbian experience. Through interviews with the co-founders, assorted ‘archivettes’ who have been working with the LHA for decades, and the new crop of interns, just as eager to preserve a shared history, this documentary reinforces the importance of community. From this, it easily inspires the viewer to participate and understand more about not only lesbian, but LGBTIQ+ history.

The documentarian, Megan Rossman, has skillfully interspersed her interviews with valuable footage and photographs of milestones achieved by the LHA over the past 40 years. The resulting experience, while displaying something centred in New York, has global appeal to our international community, with the sentiment of pride in our stories sure to resonate with any viewer.
