South Korean director PARK Joon-ho’s debut feature captures vulnerability with empathy and restraint, portraying what it means to be an outsider, both within a country and a community, in contemporary Seoul.
Cheol-jun is a young gay North Korean defector trying to build a new life in South Korea. Despite close bonds with fellow defectors, he remains deeply isolated, forced to hide his sexuality. For the first time, he summons the courage to step into Seoul’s underground gay community where he meets the warm and energetic Yeong-jun, and begins to form tentative friendships and a fragile sense of belonging.
But a seemingly trivial misunderstanding sends shockwaves through these delicate relationships, threatening the community Cheol-jun has only just begun to claim. Rarely explored on screen,
3670 offers a sensitive and human portrait of two marginalised worlds, capturing the fear, longing and quiet courage it takes to live truthfully and discover ourselves in others.
